{m BrandY of DESTINY writes "AMIGA FORMAT-THE DEBATE CONTINUES."
{e -------------------------------------------------------------
{f[Before {cBrandy {fstarts, the editorial staff would like to make it clear that
this is not a debate but an all-out {mslanging match {f-Ed]
{aWell here's where I have my say on "{ePIRACY{a". Oh no not again I'm sure you'll
say and what's this gotta do with {fAF{a. Firstly the surest way to get your
sad, crap, letter printed in AF is to slag {mPiracy {aoff and offer to lick{f Damian
Noonan's {a (smug editor of {fAF{a) ringpiece. I'll start with showing some of the
shit in this month's {e(issue 39 Oct92){a.....Readers Letters:
{a[{mSatanic Rites {ahas had a {fmouse-routine {afrom issue {e1{a. {cDeadlock{a has always had
a {cmouse-routine {a too. {eGrapevine {ahas had a {cmouse routine from {missue 8{a. {cWHEN
{cHAS {fAMIGA FORMAT {cever had a fully working mouse routine?{a I ask you! {m AF: {aThe
only {cUK {fAmiga magazine {ato have a {estaff-team {amade up entirely of {mvirgins{a-Ed]
{2{fPIRATE AHOY{1
{aWhere I live is a {crace course {aand on {fSundays {athere is a car boot sale. On one
of the major stalls in the "{fnew goods only{a" section are some people selling
{mbrand-new{a, just-released, pirated games.
{e Sensible Soccer{a, {eEpic{a, {eSim Ant {aand more are all there - even Monkey Island 2
is there, and Fire and Ice. {cHow do I go about stopping them?{a I've tried
writing to{f Sensible {aand {fOcean {aand heard nothing back.
Chris Hughes, Yorkshire
{fAnswer: {a Telephone {mFAST, {a the {cFederation Against Software Theft{a. This is an
organisation set up by {mELSPA{a, the European Leisure Software Publishers Assoc',
who represent all {msoftware houses{a. They are always keen to hear about major,
organised piracy like this. {eFAST are on:0628 (well who gives a shit){a.
{aWhat about about that piece of {euseless information {afor {mBritish Amiga users{a to
learn. Firstly I would like {fChris Hughes{a to meet an {eunfortunate accident{a for
his troubles on being such a {cslimy grass{a. Then the same misfortune upon the
stupid wankers who are running a {ffucking market stall {aobviously making a
packet out of the "{mAmiga Scene{a" I wonder what they charge?
{cOK {aI'm no {fsaint{a I charge the odd {mshilling or two {abut just so I can buy stamps,
disks, etc. {eI think piracy is great and will continue to support it so fuck
AF and C.Hughes{a. The letter pages continue with three other letters from so
called Pirates which are pretty {mbland {aand {msad{a, you know the sort....
{fIf prices come down,blah..I would buy....blah..blah..blah...one game a
month...blah..but I can't afford...blah, followed by the usual bollocking off
Mr.Damian (babboon) Nanoon....you thievin...blah..blah...if
everybody...blah.,then I read a PEACH of a letter check this....
{2{cTWO MUCH{1
{aWhy do so many {ftwo-disk games{a refuse to use two drives? When I forked out
{c64.95 {aon an extra disk drive I expected to be able to use it. Yet on most
games with more than one disk this doesn't seem possible.
{a Even one of my favourite games, {eF-19 Stealth{a, is guilty of this. It's just
inconsiderate, as is the fact (yawn) that most games are {coverpriced{a and not
{chard disk installable{a.{m Are you listening programmers?{a
{c Matthew G. Didsbury{a
{f Answer:
{mQuite right too.{a One amusing fact that {cMicroProse {aex- PR chap {fMartin Moth{a
told me was that a{e hacker {asent them a version of {mF-19 {ccracked {aand {ccompacted {aso
it fitted on {fone disk {a and still worked absolutly fine, so maybe some
two-disk games are {cunnecessary {aanyway.
{e[Perhaps the fact that he disclosed this information to you, Damian, is the
reason for him no longer being with Microprose -Ed]
{a That apart, you are right, It's just {flaziness {athat two- disk games don't use
a second drive and should be {mruthlessly purged {afrom our glorious nation. All
games should work on {eall Amigas{a, all processor types and even on {cCDTV{a.
{e[Ed: NO NO NO! Any editor worth his salt knows that this simply isn't true!
There are sound {cprogram-speed {ereasons why {mMicroprose{e couldn't do this. God,
{mDamian{e you are a{f wanker{f!]
{f Hard drive installation is only not possible because software house's still
feel they have to use disk protection as a weapon
(yawny-yawny-yawny-yawny-YAWN) against casual piracy. You can see their
point. I wonder if more games will be Hard disk installable when they become
availabe on CD.
{aWell that reply goes to show what a tosser the editor really is cos he spends
most of his {esad existence {mslagging off piracy {athen tells of the ""{cAMUSING{a""
fact about the one-disked cracked F-19......Maybe{c Matthew G. {a would like a
copy of it?
{aThen what about the {esad letter re.{f(forked out 64.95 on a drive){a then goes on
to say most games are not HD installabe, surely if he's gotta HD the price of
a {cDF1: {a is fuck all, so who gives a shit anyway.
{e The point I'm trying to make is this: {mAMIGA FORMAT {aare the worst bunch of
money grabbing lame bastards in British Publishing since {cMaxwell {amade a{e big
splash{a. They should come to realise the {mmajority{a of it's readers are {mso-called{a
{cPIRATES{a in the very fact that everybody wants something for nothing and I
can't think of anybody whose refused a copy of anything in my {elifetime{a.
{m Hmmmm. {aThis is a pretty {mboring {atopic really isn't it so I'm not gonna write
about it anymore cos I don't want to. In fact {fAmiga Format {ais {mmind-numbingly{a
boring as well come to think of it. Maybe that will explain the letter pages.
{cBoring letters, boring mag, for bored people.
{eWell cherrio then I'm going for a lie down.
{aHi to all my friends and contacts and of course you. Write to me for any
reason you wish, my address is in the adverts somewhere.....probably.
{cBrandY/DESTINY.
{e[If {mAmiga Format {ewish to stand by their magazine, they are free to write in to
{fSatanic Rites {a with their own points of view. A {ccopy {eshall be sent to their
offices by the SR team - if a reply from them isn't printed next issue then
you'll know they're a bunch of {mgutless swines{a. -Ed]
{f [ED: I met the {mAF {f team at the {cFES{f, and although I went out of my way at
their {e`Questions and Answers'{f seminar to ask them questions they'd rather not
answer {a (ie. Why is {cAmiga Format {aso sad?){f they would not get annoyed. After
the seminar I sat down and chatted with {mDamien `{cBabboon{m' Noonan{f, and he's not
all that bad. {eCome on kiddies{f, I know it's fun to slag {cAF{f, but don't you
think you're taking it a {mBIT {ftoo far?]
